{mosimage}The Vatican turned down a request by the Catholic
Archdiocese of Nairobi to commence earlier than usual the beatification process for Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga, it
was revealed today.
Archbishop Raphael Ndingi Mwana ‘a Nzeki of Nairobi said the process will start five years after the death
of his predecessor, as required by law. The Vatican has power to waive the five-year rule, as it did in the cases of
Blessed Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II.
“We were advised to wait for five years, and we accepted the advice obediently,”
Archbishop Ndingi told reporters at the Holy Family Basilica.
