He believed in education and gave all his energy and skills to thousands of students to have them ‘see’. His death is a painful loss for all of us, but his life, light for many!
Education was also the primary request of chief Karuri that Blessed Joseph Allamano met by sending his first missionaries to Kenya. And so the thought goes easily to him, to the source of inspiration of the Consolata Missionaries around the world.
All the Fathers in Toronto and two guest priests are at the altar. We are almost two hundred in the chapel for Mass. We all feel part and parcel of the Consolata Missionaries, especially in these family events, when we gather to remember our Founder and missionaries who give their life for the good of others.
The meal that follows is entirely prepared and served by volunteers. It feels our heart with gratitude to see how at these occasions there are many people who show up and generously contribute to the success of the events. Spaghetti with meat balls, moose with ‘polenta’, home made ‘crostata’ and ‘bugie’ are served, while the youngest of the family present the latest issue of our magazine.
The example of Blessed Joseph Allamano spurs us to live out the Christian mission in today’s world. We trust that we too can play our part to “open the eyes of the blind”, when we join in the activities of his missionaries, inspired by his spirit.
