Children’s Home is handed over to the international Congregation of “Daughters of Ste Anne”. Briefly, on 21st April 1979 the Catholic Church in Assela was granted permission by the Government to look after handicapped boys and orphans. As it is written:” Let the little Children come to me do not stop them.” (Mt 19:14).
At the beginning, the aim of the Home was the rehabilitation of physically handicapped Children and in helping destitute children and orphans in their initial up bringing and education. Hopefully through their friendship and living together, the handicapped child would experience a feeling of being accepted by other children and society as a whole. It was very easy to notice that some children had experienced the loss of family life and sense of insecurity about their futures. The Home put efforts to prevent the damage caused by deprivation, by providing a service of love and personal care.
On September 26, 2007 we attended to the official handing over of the Home to the “Daughters of Ste Anne”. Since the Home was many years run by our Confreres IMC, we hope the existing management of the Sisters will properly assume that responsibility. Good luck to Sisters of “Daughters of Ste Anne”.
The Celebration ended with special gratitude and thanks to the Consolata Missionaries, especially to the former directors of the Home, such as Fr. Silvio Sordella, Fr. Edoardo Rasera, and the latest, Brother Marc Waweru, who, with their efforts and goodwill, have sustained the Home up to this day.
