The 12th May 2019 will remain a date to remember in Tete Diocese. God has given her a new pastor in the person of fr. Diamantino Antunes, Consolata missionary priest. He is the fifth bishop since the diocese was created in 1962.
With the appointment of Msgr.Ignazio Saure, IMC as archbishop of Nampula two years ago, the diocese of Tete since then was having fr Sandro Giancarlo Faedi IMC as the Apostolic Administrator. This morning in the garden of Tete Cathedral, the archbishop of Nampula ordained Msgr. Diamantino in the presence of almost all members of the Episcopal conference of Mozambique, priests, religious men and women, civil authorities headed up by the governor of Tete and a huge number of faithful.
"Gaudium et Spes", is the motto of the new Bishop. Inspired by this spirit, may God help him to guide the shepherds has been assigned.
This ordination meant a lot to the Consolata missionaries. It is here that in 1926, the sons of the Consolata reached by foot in Milulu mission in Zumbo district, located in the border with Rhodesia, now Zambia. The mission was then interrupted for some years. Today, one of her sons is becoming the Bishop of the diocese. It is an honour and respect given to the Consolatas.
The diocese has 12 diocesan priests, 39 religious priests and 65 sisters.
