Friends of Consolata will remember the large Crucifix that stood in the grounds of the College at Totteridge, between the
football pitch and the nuns’ cemetery. When Totteridge closed in 2003 Fr Pietro donated it to St Aloysius College,
Highgate who wanted to refurbish it and erect it in the forecourt of the School to mark the 125th Anniversary of the
School’s foundation in1879.
So on the feast of SS Peter
& Paul 2004 following a Mass in St Joseph’s, (con-celebrants included Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor and
our own Fr Renzo Marcolongo), the restored crucifix was blessed in its new location in front of the school by the
Cardinal. A small team at the school has lovingly restored the figure and built a new cross and set it in a newly
landscaped area that can be seen from Hornsey Lane.
